Vacation Bible School

VBS 2008: “Seeking the King through the Lion of Judah” was a HUGE success! 140 different children learned stories about the Lamb... awesome!

One of our most exciting and effective ministries is our Vacation Bible School! Over half of our members give their time for this wonderful outreach opportunity… and the results are immeasurable!

Every year during the third week of June, Riverside’s building and grounds ‘morph’ into a first century market place or village, and the children are placed (adorned in period dress) into one of the 12 tribes… our members also dress in period costume and ’live out’ the scenes from the time when Jesus walked the earth!

In 2005, it was a Jerusalem Marketplace… In 2006, it was the Bethlehem Village… and in 2007, ‘Galilee by the Sea’ came to life!

Each year our ’back 40’ becomes a first century scene - complete with live animals, village shops and shopkeepers… ’spontaneous’ dramatic presentations help the 150 or so children ’live’ the stories of the Holy Land Adventure!

In June of ’07, children were exposed to the a Village on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, complete with the village well, shops, shopkeepers, donkeys, sheep, census-takers and soldiers… Jesus was causing quite a stir, going about choosing his apostles, then performing miracles and teaching the crowds...
